Murano 5.0: Elastic Amphoras Inspired by Murano Glass

Alessandro Ciffo's Innovative Design Blends Tradition and Modernity

The MURANO 5.0 collection was born from the discovery of a new type of silicone that allows for incredible transparency and high consistency. During a visit to a Murano furnace, Ciffo was captivated by the gestures, knowledge, and history of the master glassmakers. With this newfound inspiration, he sought to reimagine the use of silicone and his processing techniques to create an illusion.

The amphoras in the MURANO 5.0 collection are a testament to Ciffo's ingenuity. Crafted through a process of triangular veining and fusion in overlapping layers, the silicone material takes on the appearance of glass while retaining its elasticity and durability. This innovative technique allows for the creation of large, monolithic objects that are free of welding and surprisingly lightweight.

Measuring up to 2300mm in height and 600mm in diameter, each amphora in the collection is a stunning example of the possibilities offered by this unique combination of materials and craftsmanship. The transparency of the silicone captures and reflects light, enhancing the visual impact of these sculptures.

Designed as interior decorative elements, the MURANO 5.0 amphoras invite interaction. Their elastic consistency animates them with a single touch, while the transparency of the material collects and refracts light, creating a captivating play of colors. The MURANO 5.0 collection was presented at Venice Design in May 2017, following a year-long project that began in September 2016. Ciffo's research and experimentation with silicone led to the development of a material that perfectly balances consistency and transparency, resulting in these remarkable amphoras.
